color coordinated dinner

Why does it seem that I always end up cooking cauliflower when we're having chicken? Or carrots when we're having orange-ish mac 'n cheese? At least we don't have color coordination for broccoli or green beans.

2) I always end up doing this too! No one else seems to notice and then they kind of laugh at me when I point it out.

3) Ha, funny, when I cook (which I don't much anymore) I always try to make sure we have a variety of contrasting colors on the plate. It definitely must be a woman thing.

4) I do the same thing, but I "hide" the veggies in the main entree...kids are none-the-wiser. :O)

5) Luckily, I don't need to hide the veggies. In fact, my kids prefer everything in distinct piles, no mixing. Thankfully they are pretty great about veggies.

6) I know exactly what you mean. I hate it when eveything ends up the same color. It seems less healthy to me for some reason.

7) Well, I think I need to send Gwendolyn to learn from your guys! Besides avocados and corn, she gets nothing unless I hide it in food e.g., grated carrots in spaghetti sauce, cauliflower in potatoes, etc. Galvin will eat a few veggies, like broccoli, cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots--all raw--and green beans when the mood strikes him, but that's it.

8) Franklins, as far as I understand, it is less healthy for everything to be the same color, especially if that color is white/brown! THe colors are very indicative of the mineral/vitamin content.

9) My fifteen year old and I fight over the brussel sprouts.... who'll get the last one. My fourteen year old used to get really upset when the grocery store was out of fresh asparagus. I'm not sure why my kids eat everything but I'm certainly glad they do. As far as color coordinating meals... I try to have color variety because I think it looks more appetizing. I hate it when it's monochromatic. My husband, on the other hand, would eat meat, corn and potato at every meal.

10) Angi... do you have a garden? I think that is one reason the boys love veggies. Also, they like things very plain, no sauce, no dip. They are abnormal in that respect. =)

I also prefer color variety. I try to do it. But sometimes, the vegetable rainbow is against me.
